Pilgrimage to Ireland
For pricing & booking information
Sacred Journeys for Women has facilitated tours and pilgrimages to the sacred sites of Ireland since 2001.
The prehistoric and historic sites of Ireland are among the most spectacular in the world, and the country
is rich in folklore, fairytales, myth, and legend. Ireland truly has a magic all its own. On this tour we
will journey to standing stones, holy wells, cromlechs, sheela-na-gigs, ring forts, chambered cairns,
Celtic churches, ancient crosses, round towers, beehive huts, Ogham stones, windswept islands, and a
multitude of ancient sacred shrines.
Our pilgrimage begins in Adare, the most picturesque village in Ireland. Our first circle together
will be at the mysterious and magical stone circle at Lough Gur, a site of tranquil beauty and the Goddess.
From Adare we will travel by luxury coach to the stunning Dingle Peninsula.
We will stay at a spa hotel in Dingle. This is a great way to recover from
jetlag and come back into our bodies after traveling across the oceans. The Dingle Peninsula
has a wealth of early Christian sites, and we can enjoy the rare beauty of light and color of
the Atlantic Ocean stretching out before us. The second day after our arrival we have a free
afternoon to explore the town. Dingle is a wonderful small town full of craft shops, museums,
and local pubs and restaurants. A special treat will be an optional boat trip to see Fungi, the
friendly dolphin that lives in Dingle Bay.
Our next stop will be the stunning Lakes of Killarney via the Ring of Kerry, one of Ireland's most
famous locations, and full of history and culture. County Kerry is breathtaking and was described by
National Geographic as the most beautiful place on earth. Our hotel, The Muckross Park, is one of
the most historic and lovely hotels in the town. After three days of visiting local sites we have
another free day to explore. There will be optional tours arranged to the Gap of Dunloe and Muckross
Park, one of the first National Parks created in Ireland, and just across the street from our beautiful hotel.
After four days and nights in Killarney, we travel to the town of Kildare to
meet with the Sisters of Brigidine. The Sisters keep the light of Bridget the
Saint and Goddess burning brightly. Sister Mary is a warm-spirited woman with
lots of energy and knowledge to share. We spend a whole day in Kildare visiting
the sites connected with Bridget; old churches, healing wells, and the new center
dedicated to her.
From our base in Kildare we visit the historic, yet cosmopolitan city of Dublin. Dublin celebrated
its millennium in 1988, but its history dates back much further than 988. It is a city not to be missed,
and is full of museums, Georgian architecture, and other places of interest. Our visit will include the
National Museum of Ireland and some time for sacred shopping :-)
Our tour concludes in the county of Cavan. Here, we will visit some of the most important and
stunning ancient sites in Ireland including Newgrange and the Hill of Tara. The Hill of Tara is
said to represent the womb of Mother Ireland in which rests the golden child or High King. The High
Kings of Ireland were crowned here, and tradition recalls that the central Lia Faille stone roared
when the King was accepted. On the evening of the full moon we come together for our farewells and
prayers at the ancient sacred site of LoughCrew, where we have a private entrance.
On the last day we return participants to Dublin airport by mid-afternoon. Flights should be booked no
earlier than early evening on the 23rd June. Most people stay at a hotel by the airport on the last night
or join us in Dublin for a three-night extension in that city. The package will include three nights'
accommodation and four meals, along with a bus pass for the city and a bus tour of Dublin. The hotel
is well-located, and you are encouraged to explore this delightful city. Some places of interest
include the medieval cathedrals of Christ Church and St. Patrick's, and along with Dublin Castle,
are all centrally located. The James Joyce Museum is just a short excursion from the center of the
city, and evenings will give you the opportunity to hear some live Irish music.
During the August trip, we will also offer an extension package to the ancient port city of Galway,
on Ireland's breathtaking west coast. The Aran Islands, Connemara, and many other spectacular sites
are within easy reach of this bustling and vibrant city. Please call us for more information.
This pilgrimage attracts women from all different backgrounds. The
median age is 45-60 however, younger women do also travel with us, and
the eldest woman traveling with us this year was eighty-one. The tour
allows time for individual exploration and plenty of relaxation. We
endeavor to offer a one-of-a-kind experience of Ireland focusing on
women's spirituality and history. For pricing and booking information
